Iced Earth is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Iced Earth. It was released in November 1990 internationally and February 1991 in North America. The album has three different covers (a European/Japanese cover, an American cover and a remastered cover). This album was Mike McGill's only album with Iced Earth, as well as the last for singer Gene Adam.

Indeed, as the careening bombast of "The Reckoning (Don't Tread on Me)," comes into sharp focus, one can see that Schaeffer's intent is to very clearly showcase the various difficult, and even horrifying, moments confronting America since its inception - one can read double meanings in all the songs that have American lore at their core.

Iced Earth's 2004 effort, The Glorious Burden, is a strong, strong effort. Though it brings nothing new out of Jon Schaffer and co, it is still a very impressive effort, containing everything an Iced Earth fan could hope for. Tracks like Attila, High Water Mark, and Waterloo have the band at their best, mainly through memorable wails or melodic guitar lines. I've always been torn on Iced Earth with this issue, as they obviously can play, but on some songs, like on "Attila" and "The Reckoning (Don't Tread On Me" and all of the songs off the Gettysburg album, they don't include them. Maybe it's because they feel they'd be out of place as they try and force emotion as the selling point, but I beg to differ. I feel that a strong, melodic solo in any of the songs off of the Gettysburg Tracks would have made them feel more passionate.

With "The Glorious Burden," the legendary US heavy metal band have delivered one of the true heavy metal gems of 2004: an epic and conceptual tour-de-force that showcases the riff-mastery of Jon Schaffer and the vocal prowess of former Judas Priest singer Tim "Ripper" Owens. As a diehard Iced Earth fan, history fanatic, Civil War buff and red-blooded American Patriot, I love this album. T& not always so, however. It is greatly written, with the right words at the right time and place. 4- The Reckoning (10/10): Excellent single, pure rock song about Justice and vengeance. The highpitched vocals are stellar and just "wow". 5- Greenface (9/10): Song which keeps bringing John Kerry and the game Battlefield Vietnam to mind.
