Last year, The Eagles topped the Billboard album again after an interval of 28 years. Suite 2,810, the Chicago Ritz Carlton, March 2009. Don Henley, aged 61, is dressed in a plaid shirt and jeans. But this afternoon, Henley, buoyed by last night’s gig in the Sears Centre, is friendly, even relaxed. From the outset, it is clear how much he takes an old-fashioned, paternal pride in his songs. Long Road Out of Edeninterweaves the voice of a narrator with that of a soldier suffering in the Iraqi dust. It took Henley more than a year to conceptualise and write, but it is, he says, right up there with his best work, such as Boys of Summer, Heart of the Matter, Waiting in the Weeds(from the new album), My Thanksgivingand, of course, Hotel California.

Long Road Out of Eden is the seventh studio album by American rock band the Eagles, released in 2007 on Lost Highway Records. Nearly six years in production, it is the band’s first studio album since 1979’s The Long Run. In between that time the band recorded four original studio tracks for the live album Hell Freezes Over (1994), Hole in the World for The Very Best Of (2003) and the Joe Walsh-penned One Day at a Time for the Farewell 1 Tour-Live from Melbourne DVD (2005), which Walsh later re-recorded for his 2012 album Analog

Don Henley was strongly in favor of making Long Road Out of Eden a one-disc outing, but he was outvoted. In the same interview he confessed: "This album's not perfect. If I were king, I would have done a couple things differently. I might have left a couple of songs off and perhaps made it a single album. But we vote by committee. In the first week of the album's release it sold 711,000 copies in the States, over double the amount of the second placed album in the charts, Britney Spears' Blackout, which sold 294,000

It was a savvy move to release Long Road Out of Eden as a Wal-Mart exclusive, but the album is savvier still, crafted to evoke the spirit and feel of the Eagles' biggest hits. Nearly every one of their classic rock radio staples has a doppelganger here, as the . It's all calculated, all designed to hearken back to their past and keep the customer satisfied, but yet it often manages to avoid sounding crass, as the songs are usually strong and the sound is right, capturing the group's peaceful, easy harmonies and Joe Walsh's guitar growl in equal measure. the Eagles burrow so deeply into their classic sound that.
