The Platters merged Tin Pan Alley pop with just enough R&B grit to prefigure what came to be known as soul, and they were one of the most important vocal groups of the 1950s. The Platters were instrumental in putting black vocal groups on the pop map, charting with a dozen gold singles including the acknowledged classics "Only You" and "The Great Pretender," and their cover of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," originally recorded by Paul Whiteman in 1933, has become the definitive version of this beautiful song

Monday 21 January 2019. 0. Tuesday 22 January 2019. The Platters were a successful black vocal group of the early rock n roll era. Their distinctive sound was a bridge between the pre-rock n roll Tin Pan Alley tradition of the Ink Spots and the Mills Brothers and the explosion of teenage music in the mid 1950s. The most successful incarnation of the group comprised lead tenor Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor. The Platters formed in Los Angeles, CA, USA in 1953 and were initially managed by Ralph Bass.

Inside the album cover is a biographical essay about Vinton's life and career that was written by Will Friedwald. Although this album was released in 1991, it did not enter the charts until five years later. It was the first compilation of Vinton's music in the charts since the release of Bobby Vinton Sings the Golden Decade of Love 21 years before. Doo Wop Days Are Back, Vol. 4. Various Artists. Very Important Music. Maybe sometime (when we will feel really bored) we'll release a single or a compilation or an album, just to feel again that everlasting fire of passion that was burning inside us all through those years. We'll say kiss tomorrow goodbye, we'll pay the electricity, close the lights down and we will listen to Leonard once again spreading the true meaning of love, cause love is everything that will tear us apart.

This album has an average beat per minute of 104 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 68/150 BPM). See its BPM profile at the bottom of the page. Tracklist The Platters. Recent albums by The Platters.
