Pete Seeger's recording from the Columbia album The Bitter and the Sweet (November 1962), CL 1916, produced by John H. Hammond was also released as a Columbia Hall of Fame 45 single as 13-33088 backed by "Little Boxes" in August, 1965. The Kingston Trio recorded the song in 1961. Seeger acknowledged their success with this song  . The Chambers Brothers recorded the song for their 1968 album A New Time - A New Day. The Peddlers recorded a studio version of the song for their 1969 album Birthday. How Can I Keep From Singing? The Ballad of Pete Seeger, pp. 228-30.

Joe Hill," tough as ever, might require a bit of patience, but the jug band "Stealin'" sneaks up at the beginning of the fourth side to give the entire album a new jolt of energy. The set's promise of a concert recording is not entirely misleading, though the sides mix and match excerpts from four different gigs. Cowboy songs are a nice connection for the two men, with "Lonesome Valley" another strong part of the final side. Guantanamera" is horrid, though, and Seeger is sure stilted when it comes to old English balladry.

PETE SEEGER - I Can See A New Day - 1964 LP. Cover Condition 2. (1: near mint, 2: very good, 3: fair, 4: pretty darn worn). The Water Is Wide (Pete Seeger & Joni Mitchell). Of special interest is a six-minute version of 'Both Sides Now' that includes a verse Seeger wrote and sang especially for this performance, as well as a rare Mitchell cover of Bob Dylan's 'Mr. Tambourine Man'.

Audio CD, Live, July 13, 1992. If you only ever get one Pete Seeger album, that would be too bad because there are so many great ones. Just Pete with his acoustic instruments in a large "living room" of ordinary voices making great music. 7 people found this helpful.

PETE SEEGER: My father was a professor of musicology. My mother was a very good violinist. Her mother wanted her to tour and give concerts, but she said, No, I don’t have the physique to do that, traveling all the time and staying in hotels; I’m going to raise a family. I had two older brothers and was born in 1919 here in New York. But my grandparents had a farm up upstate, and that’s what I remember, camping out in the barn and going swimming in the local brook. And I put up a teepee out in the cow pasture. PETE SEEGER: I first wanted to be a mechanic in the Air Force. I thought that would be an interesting thing. But then Military Intelligence got interested in my politics.
