Renegade Soundwave - In Dub flac album

Renegade Soundwave's In Dub: laidback vibes from 1990. After the masterpiece of genre-splicing breaks, samples, and electronica that was their debut album, Soundclash, dance music pioneers Renegade Soundwave followed it up with a stripped back dub version. They may have lost the vocals, but the trio of Gary Asquith, Danny Briottet and Carl Bonnie certainly added some extra bite with their trailblazing work in the studio on, what is arguably their finest work, In Dub. Soundclash tracks like Pocket Porn, Traitor and Blue Eyed Boy got put through the Renegade Soundwave blender.

In Dub is a double album featuring versions of several previous tracks plus much new material recorded with the assistance of Flood and Holger Hiller. Selections like "Thunder," "Transition," and "Deadly" are skeletal echo chamber rhythm tracks devoid of much melody or effects, though "Holgertron" does sample the Dr. Who theme with panache.

What an album! Renegade Soundwave is criminally overlooked by the public nowadays, with their predictable beats, clever samples, and single-minded focus on "urban grit" being quite out of fashion. That's too bad, as this record - a collection of nearly entirely instrumental tracks (dubs) - is delightfully creative and good fun. "Thunder"'s harmonica (!!!) and rolling bass indicate both the roots and the direction of the record, reaching back to the roots of dub yet showing it to be firmly a dancefloor ethos in practice  .
