Henry Charles Bukowski (born Heinrich Karl Bukowski; August 16, 1920 – March 9, 1994) was a German-American poet, novelist, and short story writer. His writing was influenced by the social, cultural, and economic ambiance of his home city of Los Angeles. His work addresses the ordinary lives of poor Americans, the act of writing, alcohol, relationships with women, and the drudgery of work. Kasabian referenced Bukowski in single You're In love With A Psycho from the 2017 album For Crying Out Loud "Jibber jabber at the bargain booze And reciting Charles Bukowski, I got nothing to lose". His poem "Let it Enfold You" was read by Timothée Chalamet in the 2018 film "Beautiful Boy". At Terror Street and Agony Way, Open reel tape, 1968. Bukowski has never sounded eerier than in "At Terror Street and Agony Way". This 2 CD set sets you up, and then knocks you over with the scariness of the clarity of his voice as it comes over the speaker. Why not record some of your stuff? I remember reading about someone, and maybe it was Barry, visiting Buk about this time, planning to record all the great Beat poets living on the west coast. Well, Buk was not Beat.

At Terror Street And Agony Way. Overview.

Bukowski was so shy he insisted that he record alone. He reads both poetry and prose, gets thoroughly drunk during the recording, and bitches about his life, his landlord, and his neighbors. This double CD features 130 minutes of the first-ever recordings of Charles Bukowski reading his own work. Culled from tapes made by Bukowski at his Los Angeles home in 1968 for biographer and rock critic Barry Miles, long before the author had begun regular public readings. Bukowski was so shy he insisted that he record alone.
