Dame Kiri Janette Te Kanawa ONZ CH DBE AC (/ˌkɪri tɪ ˈkɑːnəwə/; born Claire Mary Teresa Rawstron, 6 March 1944) is a New Zealand soprano. She has a full lyric soprano voice, which has been described as "mellow yet vibrant, warm, ample and unforced".

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa was born in 1944 in Gisborne, New Zealand. Adopted at five weeks old, her parents renamed her Kiri after the Māori word for ‘bell. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa’s upcoming projects include an appearance at the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation. Steadfast in her approach to experimenting with her talents, Dame Kiri will also appear in the next series of Downton Abbey.

Kiri Te Kanawa gained legendary status almost overnight after her sensational debut as the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1971. Dame Kiri released the album Maori Songs in 2000, a tribute to her background and homeland and in 2006 released an exciting album in collaboration with composer Karl Jenkins, entitled Kiri Sings Karl.
