Rebounding from the inconsistent Holidays in Eden, Marillion retreated to the studio for 15 months to write and record the concept album Brave. Telling the story of an abused girl wandering on Severn Bridge, the album is a solid mix of symphonic tracks with a pronounced rock edge. A band known for trilogies, the final set of "The Great Escape," "The Last of You," and "Falling From the Moon" form one of the most dynamic showcases for vocalist Steve Hogarth and guitarist Steve Rothery.

Producer – Dave Meegan, Marillion. Text on rear sleeve says "this album was cut and dried. The final side of this pressing contained a double groove, allowing two separate endings to the story within this concept album. One groove played "The Great Escape" and "Made Again", providing a happy ending, while the second groove played "The Great Escape (Spiral Remake)" and approximately six minutes of water noises, providing a downer ending.

1994’s Brave is Marillion’s seventh studio album, and their grand return to progressive rock after two albums of trying out a more pop-rock sound. This album is a rock opera which tells the story of a suicidal young woman and her struggles with connection and alienation in a cold, uncaring reality. It was the band’s most successful album since Steve Hogarth took over as the band’s front man, peaking at on the British album charts, and remained so until 2016, when their album . R reached Brave Q&A.
