Mirrors is the second album by endlessly influential South London producer Mala. It follows his 2012 Brownswood release where Gilles Peterson invited the producer to soak up Cuba’s music and culture to turn the results into Mala In Cuba. Mirrors is a bridge joining Croydon and Lima. released June 24, 2016.

Mark Lawrence is still on the move. After 2012’s Mala in Cuba took the Digital Mystikz dubstep breaker to Havana, the London producer has now made out for Peru. The result is an album of subtle, spooky, sci-fi blends, with Mala mixing hypnotic Peruvian sounds with thudding bass and smoked-out synths to create enticing tracks such as Cusco Street Scene, the evocative and tender Cunumicita (with vocals from Danitse) and Markos Swagga. While the album lacks the mojo of his Cuban run, it does show that Mala is a producer happy to embrace his other sides. Wed, Jul 6, 2016, 19:00.

Mala will release his second album, Mirrors, via Brownswood Recordings in June. The LP is inspired by Mala's trips to Peru and features a number of domestic musicians: Colectivo Palenke, Danitse, Asociacion Juvenil Puno and Sylvia Falcón. It's a follow-up to Mala In Cuba, which he recorded with artists in Havana throughout 2012. The dubstep don also just wrapped up a ten-year anniversary tour of North America for his label Deep Medi Musik. You can watch a trailer for Mirrors below, which shows one of Mala'a collaborators recording drums and percussion in the studio

Mark Lawrence aka Mala has shaped the sound of modern electronic music, with the help of his Digital Mystikz, DMZ partner Coki.

Mirrors is the second album by endlessly influential South London producer Mala. It follows his 2012 Brownswood release Mala In Cuba. But Mirrors is less Mala In Cuba Mk II and more the realization of a creative method that works for this most understated and intuitive producer: digging deep into the roots of a culture, recording local musicians and sounds, and using the recordings as source material and storyboard for a record. The product of repeated visits to dive into Peru's music, it revolves around tempo and flow, working local Afro-Peruvian percussionists, grassroots.
