The Braindance Coincidence ‎(CD, Album, Comp, Smplr). You simply must own this album, the definitive album to describe braindance. Theres maybe one or two tracks that sink below the rest, but I can't think of them! You can pick this up new for around a fiver and I imagine a lot of you have, if you havnt DO IT NOW!!

Rephlexions! An Album of Braindance! is a 2003 compilation album released by Rephlex Records. Heidi Chapson of Exclaim! said, "From electro to Squarepusher-esque drum & bass antics to melodic avant-gardism, the scope on this 19-track compilation is broad but cohesive, all presented in a timeless fashion. Dave Segal of Stylus Magazine gave the album a grade of B+, saying, "Rephlex remains one of the world's quirkiest and most inquisitive labels.

This album is a 16-track voyage through Rephlex’s back-catalogue (over 100 releases. and counting), and a chance for the uninitiated. to sample the label self-styled ‘braindance’ aesthetic. Described by Claridge as a way of life rather than a musical style, braindance is actually just a term to describe people who take James’s own mischievous electronica as their starting point before they push off into the ether. The result is music that’s consistently challenging, eclectic and, well, actually rather funny.

How about all those vinyl-only treasures that remain unearthed? This being said, Braindance Coincidence is stellar in scope, richly diverse, and a smart starting point for the curious. The compilers do an excellent job picking the one most representative track for each artist, such as U-ziq's energetic, melodic, and crunchy "Swan Vesta," Ovuca's ethereal and sputtering '"Afternoon Girl," and the electro-funk hyperactivity of Tom Jenkinson remixing himself, as Chaos . does brilliant battle with Squarepusher.
