Burning Tree was an American hard rock/blues rock power trio from Los Angeles, California. The band performed from the late 1980s to 1990. The band was started in 1987, by the guitarist Marc Ford and drummer Doni Gray, and were soon joined by bassist Mark "Muddy" Dutton to complete the three piece, but not before trying half a dozen bass players, including Jay Bentley from Bad Religion

Dutton quit while Ford was invited to join The Black Crowes soon after. This Self titled release of Burning Tree falls more in line with the grunge metal tones of I Mother Earth, Gruntruck, Sugartooth, Mother Love Bone, Temple of the Dog or Alice in Chains with a bit more stoner METAL Bump & Groove. Consisting out of four members, Göttingen, Germany-based Burning Tree have been into playing Stoner Rock/Heavy Rock since September 2015. Burning Tree's self-titled debut album is a perfect example of a CD that was a creative triumph but a commercial disaster. Perhaps the band got lost in the corporate shuffle at Epic, or perhaps the problem was that Burning Tree's heavy rock was too different from the other heavy rock that was popular at the time. Burning Tree didn't play glossy pop-metal à la Poison, Warrant, Bon Jovi, or Winger, and it wasn't a thrash or speed metal band like Metallica, Slayer, or Megadeth. Favoring a very psychedelic approach, the power trio drew on such late-'60s influences as Jimi.
