Idlewild are a Scottish rock band formed in Edinburgh in 1995. The band's line-up consists of Roddy Woomble (lead vocals), Rod Jones (guitar, backing vocals), Colin Newton (drums), Andrew Mitchell (bass) and Luciano Rossi (keyboards). To date, Idlewild have released eight full-length studio albums. Initially, Idlewild's sound was faster and more dissonant than many of their 1990s indie rock contemporaries.

Listening to Idlewild's sophomore effort, 100 Broken Windows, for the first time is the shocking musical equivalent of watching Jake saunter into the lunchroom on that fateful afternoon. Like Jake's naked form in the context of a large dining area, the sound on this record came as a completely unexpected surprise. Okay, a surprise minus the queasiness. When we bought the album, we figured we had a sure-fire predictable band on our hands- same faded cover art, same agitated song titles. But then, just when we were ready to give up on them, we pressed the play button and bang! Jake.

About 100 Broken Windows. The classic, fan-favourite Idlewild release, now revered as one of the all-time great Scottish records.

100 broken Windows is raw, rough edged punk yet traditional in lyrics with tight raging tracks. These 4 Scots neglected everything that was happening in the music business at the time and went down their own path, producing intense rock songs about growing up in the working class inspired by the greats from late 80s and early 90s such as Nirvana and REM, Sonic Youth and The Pixies. This album definitely deserves a prominent place in any discerning music-lover's collection. 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

The first two-thirds of 100 Broken Windows represents one of the best eight-song winning streaks I've ever heard: just when you think they can't possibly come up with another scorching guitar hook or sing-along lyric, WHAM. In particular, "Little Discourage" takes the nuclear approach to album-opening, followed a bit later by the spectacular triple punch of "Roseability," "Idea Track," and "Let Me Sleep (Next to the Mirror). Things do fall off a bit after that, but by then, I'm willing to bet that you'll be prepared to forgive.

100 Broken Windows is the second full-length studio album by Scottish band Idlewild, released on 9 May 2000. The album showcased a significantly mellower, less distorted sound for Idlewild, with the songs being of a slower tempo than those on the punk influenced Hope Is Important. In 2008, vocalist Roddy Woomble stated that the album "seems to be the record many people make a connection with. The album was preceded by the single "Little Discourage" in September 1999 (charting at 24), then shortly before release "Actually It's Darkness" charted at number.

Talk about Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows

Shakar
Weak and thin sounding by MOV standards. Most of their releases are stellar, but not this one. The CD sounds quite a bit better actually.
