I Robot is the second studio album by English progressive rock band The Alan Parsons Project, released on 1 June 1977 by Arista Records. The album draws conceptually on author Isaac Asimov's science fiction Robot trilogy, exploring philosophical themes regarding artificial intelligence. It was re-released on vinyl and cassette tape in 1984 and on CD 2007.

The album I Robot to some extent looks at the questions and the extent to which as human being we may or may not be pre-programmed and act in a robotic fashion as well as the dangers of uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence. The song ‘Some Other Time’ came about because when Alan asked Paul McCartney to read a line of poetry for the Tales of Mystery album in return for a favor Alan had done him, Paul’s response had been ‘Some other time Alan, some other time’ and this gave Eric an idea for the song  . Few realize that there were originally two vocalists on this song. Extract 3 from The Alan Parsons Project Audio Guide. AP I talk about our choices of singers. Breakdown – The Choir.

The Alan Parsons Project- Pyramid (full album). A Little Light Music. I Robot peaked at on the album charts. There weren't any singles that made it into the Top 200 but that's not an important thing. It was with this album that things began to go right for the Project. It's with this album that certain patterns were established that would continue for the next several albums. The album opens with the incredible instrumental "I Robot". This song is very similar to Pink Floyd, best song on the album. Then follows "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You", a pop-type song with a good lead guitar solo.

Talk about The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot

Katius
This does sound truly spectacular, however I'm a little surprised to say there's a fair amount of surface noise on my copy. This is after a deep cleaning and a handful of plays as well. It's not too noticeable and it's only in the quieter sections that it's noticeable at all but I was a little surprised by this none the less.
Araath
I agree. I gave up after three exchanges and just deal with the surface noise now. :-(
Rainshaper
I haven't compared this pressing to other versions, but I would be shocked if there was a better sounding version out there.
Thozius
Better sounding? No.But my Arista pressings have less surface noise than the 45 RPM MoFi for whatever reason.
Orevise
I agree. This has to be one of the best sounding records in my collection.
