The Killing Kind is the eighth studio album released by thrash metal band Overkill in 1996. It was the first album to feature new guitarists Joe Comeau and Sebastian Marino. In 1995, both guitarists Rob Cannavino and Merritt Gant decided to leave Overkill. Overkill then hired Joe Comeau, former singer of the band Liege Lord (now playing guitar).

Admittedly, "The Killing Kind" has too many more or less average tracks to reach the status of a real classic. Nevertheless, it shows its muscles with a handful of songs that have the quality to challenge their early monuments (with the exception of the untouchable "Rotten to the Core", of course). Exactly this feature separates the output from rather ambivalent records such as "Under the Influence" or "The Years of Decay". Claiming Overkill as the first thrash band because they were playing a punk cover of a punk song that they tacked on to the end of their first album six years later makes as much sense as claiming Judas Priest used to play doom metal because Sad Wings of Destiny isn’t as fast as Defenders of the Faith.

Overkill released their third album, Under the Influence, in 1988. Once again produced by Alex Perialas, who had worked on the band's first two albums, Under the Influence was much more raw and thrashy, lacking most of the epic atmosphere heard on Taking Over. The song "Hello from the Gutter" was released as a single, and the music video gained regular airplay on MTV's Headbangers Ball. As Comeau was also a singer, backing vocals on The Killing Kind and subsequent albums were more elaborate and frequent than before, adding another element to the band's sound

This Overkill album came out in 1996, with the first Overkill album coming out in 1985. Douglas Scott lol you missed a lot of great stuff then bro, well I don't know your idea of "newer" overkill, but since you're talking about "the killing kind" I'll assume you stopped listening to them since "I hear black".
