The Girl From Chickasaw County is a new career spanning eight-CD deluxe set that brings together all of American singer-songwriter Bobbie Gentry’s studio albums and adds a massive amount of previously unreleased recordings. Sensitively remastered from the original tapes, this collection features Gentry’s six studio albums (recorded between 1967 and 1971), her long-player with Glen Campbell and adds over 75 unreleased recordings outtakes, demos and rarities.

Bobbie Gentry finally get her due is one of the more positive storylines to come out of the past decade of the music industry. The multi-hyphenate artist from Mississippi had been long relegated to the cutout bins, resurrected only through easy listening stations keeping her hit Ode To Billie Joe in regular rotation and Reba McEntire ’s successful 1991 cover of Fancy. This slow growth has culminated in the shining jewel that is The Girl From Chickasaw County, an eight-CD boxed set that gathers together nearly everything Gentry recorded between 1967 and 1972. Like so many artists at the time, she embraced The Beatles ’ idea of an album as a complete statement and not just a vehicle for singles very seriously. The Fab Four’s influence continued was evident throughout her career as she covered three of their songs on Local Gentry and apparently include a Sgt. Pepper’s medley in her Vegas revue.
