Sheer Heart Attack is the third studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 8 November 1974 by EMI Records in the United Kingdom and by Elektra Records in the United States. Digressing from the progressive themes featured on their first two albums, this album featured more pop-centric and conventional rock tracks and marked a step towards the "classic" Queen sound. It was produced by the band and Roy Thomas Baker and launched Queen to mainstream popularity in the UK and throughout the world.
The 1974 third studio album Sheer Heart Attack catapulted Queen into international rock stardom. Its lead hit single, Freddie Mercury’s rock-pop Killer Queen was the sheer chart attack catalyst of the album’s popularity, creating Queen-mania in the . much of Europe, including some of Eastern Europe, and particularly in Japa. ueen’s first presence in Japan, during their first tour there (or leg thereof, in support of Sheer Heart Attack ) drew a Japanese-flavored frenzy of Beatle-maniacal proportions.
Queen II was a breakthrough in terms of power and ambition, but Queen's third album Sheer Heart Attack was where the band started to gel. It followed quickly on the heels of the second record - just by a matter of months; it was the second album they released in 1974 - but it feels like it had a longer incubation period, so great is the progress here

On their third album, Sheer Heart Attack, Queen had found their sound. The songs overall are stronger and more memorable than on their first two releases as they found a balance between Brian May's guitar theatrics and Freddie Mercury's flair for the dramatic. Nowhere is this more evident than on the band's first . hit single "Killer Queen", which boasts a memorable chorus and their now famous multi-tracked backing vocals to go with May's singable guitar lines and Mercury's clever lyrics. The track "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" is one of several vaudeville tunes that they did so well. The only thing that stops Sheer Heart Attack from becoming a classic is that a few of the songs like "Lily of the Valley" and especially "Misfire" feel incomplete and that's a shame on the latter since it's great while it lasts. All told, this is the first of a long winning streak for Queen and is one of their better albums.
The more I listen to Sheer Heart Attack, the third album from Queen, the more I realize bow much I under-rated it a few months back when it was first released. Side one in particular is a delight, with Brian May's multi-tracked guitar, Freddie Mercury's stunning vocalizing and Roy Thomas Baker's dynamic production work teaming up in a no-holds barred, full-scale attack on the senses.
