However, a major flaw of this huge set, besides lack of decent packaging, is the sheer number of CDs, which could have been cut in half if the full 80-minute capacity of each disc were utilized. Hits 50 is a compilation album released in the United Kingdom in August 2001. It contains 50 tracks spread over two CDs, including nine number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart from Five, DJ Pied Piper and the Masters of Ceremonies, Craig David, Jennifer Lopez, Bob The Builder, Rui Da Silva, LeAnn Rimes, A1, and Westlife. Hits 50 is the first Hits album since Hits 97 and Hits 99 to feature the word Hits in the name as the only word in the title.

The 50s material is very weak if you are thinking the great 50s hits and familiar lounge-type instrumentals. They trot out some very shopworn titles that are in ALL these types of collections such as Sleepwalk, Rebel Rouser, Raunchy, etc. To me this was a big waste of money and time. The titles were big hits but the recordings by some of these people are just not very good.
