Cheetah Chrome performs at Bowery Electric on September 14th, 2014 in New York City. On August 16th, 1974, the Ramones – the founding lineup of Johnny (guitar), Joey (voice), Tommy (drums) and Dee Dee (bass and song count-off) – performed at CBGB, a year-old club on a war-zone stretch of New York’s Bowery, for the first time. The concert was organized by Bowery Electric proprietors Malin and Diane Gentile (who also sang); proceeds went to Love Hope Strength, a rock & roll charity (co-founded by Mike Peters of the Welsh band the Alarm) that supports cancer-treatment centers and registers bone marrow donors. Joey, Tommy and Johnny Ramone all died of cancer-related illnesses.

Bowery Electric's debut full-length album is a droning, atmospheric affair.

The Bowery Electric, a ballad written by Jed Davis. Bowery Electric, a Manhattan-based dreampop duoIn film: The Bowery (film), a 1933 historical film about the Lower East Side of Manhattan at the turn of the century. Other collaborators have included Lawrence Chandler of Bowery Electric, Nick Kramer, Delia Derbyshire and Thomas Köner, plus various members of Spectrum, though it is generally considered a Kember solo project. The collective is one of Kember's several post-Spacemen 3 projects, which also include Spectrum, as well albums released under the Sonic Boom moniker.

Their first album, Bowery Electric (Kranky, 1995), is a collection of lengthy guitar drones. Pieces such as Next To Nothing are quite trivial toys of rocket-like guitars over solemn drums, but the ten-minute Slow Thrills concentrates enough guitar fuzz and feedback to qualify as pleasant psychedelic muzak. On the downside, the vocals are terribly "lo-fi" and quite unnecessary.
