Let's Play Two" is a good quality pressing compared to the recent US represses of "No Code" and "Yield" - discs are flat, which is surprising given how cramped the gatefold is. The bass is on the mark, but the strings, vocals, and overall sound are muted/muffled, like there was a hand or sheet between sources and microphones. Play this album and then an old PJ pressing, and it's night and day. No idea if it's a soundboard, mastering or pressing issue, but I'm not used to hearing this sort of live sound from PJ NON-bootleg vinyl.

Pearl Jam entered Seattle's London Bridge Studios in March 1991 to record its debut album, Ten. McCready said that "Ten was mostly Stone and Jeff; me and Eddie were along for the ride at that time. Krusen left the band in May 1991 after checking himself into rehabilitation; he was replaced by Matt Chamberlain, who had previously. Ament stated that "essentially Ten was just an excuse to tour," adding, "We told the record company, 'We know we can be a great band, so let's just get the opportunity to get out and play. The band's manager, Kelly Curtis, stated, "Once people came and saw them live, this lightbulb would go on.

In recent weeks, Pearl Jam have been teasing a concert film called Let's Play Two. The footage from these teasers shows brief clips of the band's performances at Wrigley Field last August. Now, the band has confirmed the details of Let's Play Two, a concert film that indeed documents those two performances at one of baseball's most legendary venues.

Please, regarding gatefold cover, is difference between 10C version ("soft touch finish with gloss varnish packaging") and retail version really noticeable? Thanks!

any chance to know languages and subs? no info on cover or backside

Played on a Denon DL-103 & an Audio Technica AT440MLB, and a pair of HiFiMan HE 4XX planar magnetic headphones. The AT & 4XX together pull out a lot of what's available in the top end, and there's just very little on this record, except a bit of sibilance (but not much). Dynamic range sounds quite compressed but I haven't measured it. Sadly it's another in a line of not-great-sounding PJ records.Still a fun record though! And a better show!

My copy sounds pretty good. I can see how some other members have given this record a less than great review as I think it does sound somewhat compressed in parts, but overall I enjoyed it. There're some great moments and the tracklist is killer!

I do not understand complaints about sound quality. As for me, this is the first great-sounding PJ vinyl. I expected another noisy vinyl with a lot of dynamic compression in the style of Brendan o'brien, and I got a subdued, warm sounding sound with a fresh bottom and solidly cut medium - applause of people is just a background. It's great for me. I recommend listening to vintage equipment, where medium frequencies were a lot. Then there will be no complaints about their lack.
Nenayally
My European copy has the label stickers for side C and D switched.

Thoroughly enjoyed this pressing. Played on a Project debut carbon black ortofon. I own a Benny and it is just as good to that for sound IMO. Plus, damn good setlist.

Curious take on it. Are you sure, goldenboy, that your copy of Benaroya isn’t just played out? (grin ;) Compared to a more recent live pressing, like the Third Man Records concert (TMR388), everything on “Let’s Play Two” is duller. And that’s comparing “Let’s Play Two” to even worse quality “gimmick vinyl” (the TMR split color) than that on which Benaroya (burgundy) was pressed. Most recent PJ pressings seem to have a withdrawn sound; even the EV solo performance for the recent Twin Peaks soundtrack (081227933975) seemed less dynamic than most other tracks on the album, and not because it’s a quiet song. Does this suggest a mastering issue?

Pearl Jam have dropped the ball on this one. Poor mastering. Has the “smiley face” EQ sound. Muffled, lacking mids and poor top end. Very disappointing all round.
Garr
Totally agree with funky_tomate. Really poor sound quality. Muffled and compressed. I've listened to it once, and will probably never listen to it again. I'm a die hard PJ fan, so I'll keep it to complete my collection, but a huge let down. Such a shame :-(
Levion
Poor quality sound. So much disappointed. Muffled, compressed, weird channel separation. What a shame ! Well, packaging is high quality but content is simply awful. Red card to 10C !
Truthcliff
I have the US retail version. I agree with Given2Fly15, it's def got a muffled sound. I think they used one master for all formats. This def sounds like a compressed digital mix, not analog. I know most stuff is recorded digitally today, but typically the vinyl masters are mixed differently than digital, and you can here it with a good vinyl pressing.

The EU "Let's Play Two" pressing ( 00602557847673 ) sounds muffled. Is this version (10c) actually pressed in the US? Do listeners feel it sounds muffled? Won't help to compare it to the recent 10c "No Code" and "Yield" represses - those are really bad in both pressing and sound quality.

No idea if it's a soundboard, mastering or pressing issue, but I'm not used to hearing this sort of live sound from PJ NON-bootleg vinyl. I'm curious whether the US pressing of "Let's Play Two" sounds noticeably different - better or worse - given how quiet and poorly manufactured the two aforementioned studio represses were. Overall, not a good deal for the sound. An MP3 played through a decent DAC should be at least as good for sound quality, and likely better for mids and highs. Disappointing. This was heard with good but not "high end" equipment: Ortofon 2M Black cartridge, ProJect Carbon 3 turntable with Oyaide record stabilizer and GND ZERO (not a typo) earthing device, "Les system" customized Yaquin MS-22B phono preamp, Sound Master 76MKII amp, copper audio cables, silver grounding cables, standard power cords, and Gallo reference speakers.

After getting the US represses of “No Code,” “Yield,” and associated 7’s, and seeing AND hearing how poor the mastering and pressing qualities are, I won’t be ordering any more represses. I laughed at that limited 500 copy all-studio-albums repress set that sold out quickly - basically $35 per repress for quality that may be worth less than $0.35 per album if the repress quality is same as before. Current production of lp’s In the US can’t keep up with the demand, such that pressing seems to have become a culture of getting it done quickly and carelessly. Funny thing is, the first round of represses for “Ten,” “Vs.” and “Vitalogy” were pretty good both in sound and press quality (even the live shows included in the big box sets were done well). Those predated big upswing in recent years’ vinyl sales - maybe not a coincidence!?
Mr.Bean
Totally agree. I got US pressing and it's horrible. I'm just on A2 and I don't want to spin entirely the records. So disappointed ! What a shame. Fantastic band but more and more 10C take us for bank accounts. It's so sad.I hope that fans which pre-ordered last reissues LP (Ten/Binaural/Riot Act/Avocado) won't get this poor audio quality. Like you said, spin an old pressing, it's night and day.
Dikus
Totally agree - very poor mastering, going to send mine back.
Marad
10C version (this one) has a nicer soft touch gatefold than Amazon or retail. Sound quality is solid, but not spectacular. Pressing is nice and quiet, and not "hot", which is nice. Song selection is meh. A little too commercial for the die hards, but probably good for the mass consumer. Really strong versions of Inside Job and Release. "I've Got a Feeling" was cut and shortened in both the cd and the vinyl. Hopefully it was to preserve the sound quality of the vinyl and not because the multi-track went bad. We shall see when the full bootlegs are released in November.
