This wonderful British LP has all 15 of the selections that trumpeter Reuben "River" Reeves led in 1929. An RST CD has since improved upon the release, adding two songs led by Omer Simeon, Reeves' 1933 session, and four songs from the Dixie Rhythm Kings. However, collectors who run across this increasingly scarce LP might want to pick it up anyway, since the liner notes are excellent and the sound is quite good. Reeves, an exciting if excitable trumpeter, was briefly considered a competitor of Louis Armstrong and Jabbo Smith.
