Brian Auger and the Trinity was a British musical ensemble led by keyboardist Brian Auger. His duet with Julie Driscoll, the Bob Dylan-penned "This Wheel's On Fire", was a hit on the 1968 UK Singles Chart. Their joint album, Open, billed as Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity, reached in the UK Albums Chart the same year. The group and Driscoll opened for Led Zeppelin at the Rose Palace in Pasadena, California on 2 and 3 May 1969.

Brian Auger and his band outdo themselves on this extraordinary album, which boasts playing that is both passionate and of virtuoso caliber, and encompasses just the right repertory. From the opening of the soaring rendition of I Wanna Take You Higher through the jazzy interpretation of Gabriel Fauré’s Pavane, the Albinoni-based Adagio per Archi e Organo, the impassioned rendition of Traffic’s No Time to Live (sung by lead guitarist Gary Boyle), and the smooth interpretation of Herbie Hancock’s Maiden Voyage (featuring some elegant lead playing. Recorded after their split with Julie Driscoll, Befour found the Trinity steering away from wide- eyed psychedelic pop to get down and dirty with some jazz fusion material.

Befour was the last album by Auger's band Trinity, and featured guitarist Gary Boyle back in the band; the vocalist, Julie Driscoll, had departed for a solo career. The band was pushing the jazz-rock thing even then, and its take on funk - as evidenced by the opening cut, a stellar reading of Sly Stone's "I Want to Take You Higher," was quite unusual for Great Britain at the time.
