Most know Smith for her debut album Horses in 1975 and the 10 studio albums that followed – she still tours (just last year, she brought the Dalai Lama onstage at Glastonbury for his birthday). Since I travel so much, I’m in a lot of different places that many people wouldn’t have the opportunity to go to, she said. Photograph: Patti Smith courtesy of Robert Miller Gallery. As part of the show, the table and chair are coming to the gallery where Smith will be giving public readings from M Train. She will also be in conversation with Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago curator Omar Kholeif on Saturday.

Patti Smith’s third album, ‘Easter’, hits the ripe old age of thirty-five this year, but is still as vital - in both sound and prominence - as it was in 1978. In early ‘77, while touring the sophomore album ‘Radio Ethiopia’, Patti fell from a stage in Tampa, Florida, breaking her neck in several places. A life reassessment later, there was a conspicuous shift in her creative output.

With her fiercely literate punk rock, Smith broke down barriers in the '70s, expanding the possibilities of what rock & roll could do. Read Full Biography.
