In the Pocket is the ninth studio album by the Commodores, released by Motown Records in 1981. It is the last Commodores album to feature Lionel Richie, as he left the band to start a solo career the following year This album contained two hit singles, "Oh No" (. and "Lady (You Bring Me Up)" (.

Commodores is an American funk/soul band, which was at its peak in the late 1970s through the mid 1980s. The members of the group met as mostly freshmen at Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) in 1968, and signed with Motown in November 1972, having first caught the public eye opening for the Jackson 5 while on tour. The group's most successful period was in the late 1970s and early 1980s when Lionel Richie was the co-lead singer.

In the Pocket is the ninth studio album by the Commodores, released by Motown Records in 1981. It is the last Commodores album to feature Lionel Richie, as he left the band to start a solo career the following year. The bulk of the album was recorded at Web IV Recording Studio in Atlanta, Georgia. This album contained two hit singles, "Oh No" (. However, In The Pocket would become Sedaka's best-known Elektra album because of its second single, the duet he performed with his daughter Dara, "Should've Never Let You Go" which charted at on the Billboard Hot 100 and at on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1980. It was a remake of a 1978 song, "Should've Never Let Her Go" from the album All You Need Is the Music, which Sedaka had sung solo.

Caught in the Act is the second studio album by Commodores, released in 1975 (see 1975 in music). Stylistically, this is a funk/R&B album and differs from the softer pop sound for which the group became known on later releases. Caught in the Act included the hit "Slippery When Wet", which has been called a "prototype" of Wild Cherry's hit "Play That Funky Music" (1976).

IN THE POCKET was Lionel Richie's last album with the Commodores. By the time he exited the band in late 1982, they had gone from being hard-core R&B funksters to masters of the pop power ballad, due to the overwhelming influence of Richie. This album is miles away from previous offerings like CAUGHT IN THE ACT, MOVIN' ON, HOT ON THE TRACKS and the group's self-titled LP that contained smoldering funk and deep, infectious grooves, so don't expect to find much of that here. However, this album does has some highlights worth hearing. Overall, IN THE POCKET has more strengths than weaknesses. If you're comparing it to any Commodores LP recorded before 1978, well, of course it will come up short. But if you really enjoy this band's music, then it's a sure bet that you'll want to jump on this.
