Coxon's seventh 15-track studio album titled The Spinning Top, produced again by Stephen Street, was released on 11 May 2009. Coxon stated that the LP, which is primarily acoustic, followed a narrative – the story of a man from birth to death. The album is mainly an acoustic journey although there is, of course, some explosive electric guitar action," he explained.

The Spinning Top crashes into the median, and it barely budges for almost 70 trudging minutes. Blur are doing what every once-profitable band does these days- hi, Led Zeppelin!- and getting back together. Coxon recently told Uncut he's a big fan of English folk guitar gods Bert Jansch, Davy Graham, and Martin Carthy, and he's certainly playing in their style here. On "Perfect Love", Coxon's folk-filigreed acoustic figure joins various Indian instruments to back double-tracked doggerel lyrics vaguely reminiscent of Edgar Allan Poe's "Annabel Lee".

The Spinning Top is the seventh studio album by Blur guitarist Graham Coxon on new record label Transgressive Records. The album is produced by Stephen Street and was released on May 11, 2009. It is a concept album that follows a narrative of a man from birth to death. The album was supported by the single "Sorrow's Army", released on 18 May. The cover art and liner artwork, like previous releases, was painted by Coxon himself

Ever since he pushed Blur away from Brit-pop and into indie, Coxon has eagerly, earnestly explored new directions, and so it is with his seventh album, The Spinning Top, a loose song cycle that finds the singer/songwriter indulging in a new desire to be a British folk singer in the vein of Bert Jansch.

The Spinning Top", Coxon's seventh studio LP to date, is also his finest yet whether the folky blues shuffle of "Sorrow"s Army", menacing thrashes of "Dead Bees", or eight-minute daydream opus, and perhaps album centrepiece, "In The Morning". Comprising 15 original new songs, the album was produced by Stephen Street and featuring collaborators such as Danny Thompson and Robyn Hitchcock. Blur were one of my favourite Britpop bands and "The spinning top" is the 7th solo album by its guitarist, Graham Coxon. Fresh from production work on Pete(r) Doherty's delicate and incredibly beautiful debut "Grace/Westlands", this is a retro Folk/Rock affair.

Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano, Drums, Percussion – Graham Coxon.

After his bracingly lo-fi early solo albums, and the shiny, spiky pop rigour of Happiness in Magazines and Love Travels at Illegal Speeds, Graham Coxon takes a detour down the folk road. And what a fruitful decision it proves, on an album that captures to a sometimes heart-stoppingly beautiful degree his instinctive touch as a painter of sound pictures, and his skills as an arranger
