Peter, Paul and Mary is the first album by Peter, Paul and Mary, released in 1962 on Warner Bros.

By 1967, Peter, Paul & Mary were fighting to stay relevant. Toward that end, Album 1700 was not unsuccessful, yielding not only their final hit single (and only No. 1), "Leaving on a Jet Plane," but graceful folk-rock trappings for their repertoire of originals and covers by, among others, Bob Dylan and Eric Anderson. Elsewhere, the strain is showing, down to the ersatz Dylan poetics that serve as liner notes, and especially "I Dig Rock and Roll Music

The trio Peter, Paul and Mary (often PP&M) is an American musical group that was one of the most successful folk-singing groups of the 1960s. The trio comprises Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers. The group was created by manager Albert Grossman, who sought to create a folk "supergroup" by bringing together "a tall blonde (Travers), a funny guy (Stookey), and a good looking guy (Yarrow).

Peter, Paul and Mary were part of the 1960s folk revival, but they can trace their roots and inspiration back to music and events from the late '40s, and the founding of the Weavers. In 1948, the musical and political left had been galvanized behind the presidential campaign of former Vice President Henry Wallace and his running mate, Senator Glen Taylor. Their second album, Moving, released in January of 1963, got off to a slightly slower start, but it found its way to number two and a 99-week run with help from "Puff (The Magic Dragon)," a song that Peter Yarrow had written in college. The single rose to number two that spring and became one of the most beloved children's songs of all time, as well as the trio's passport through any potential controversy.

The entire album glows with the earnestness and passion that defined the culture of the '60s, from Mary Travers' lilting soprano on "500 Miles" to the striking sense of social change that permeates their moving rendition of Pete Seeger's folk classic "Where Have All the Flowers Gone. Peter, Paul and Mary Peter, Paul & Mary. We could listen to Peter, Paul and Mary's self-titled debut a hundred times and never get tired of their stirring harmonies and heartfelt sentiments of peace and love. The entire album glows with the earnestness and passion that defined the culture of the '60s, from Mary Travers' lilting soprano on "500 Miles" to the striking sense of social change that permeates their moving rendition of Pete Seeger's folk classic "Where Have All the Flowers Gone.
