J. Strauss: Best of Waltzes & Polkas (2 CDs). They are all performed by the Vienna Philharmonic and several famous conductors. And I love the recording of the Radetzky March with the audience clapping along. The album, 2 CDs, was wonderful with several waltzes on them not often heard. Which was a real treat. The only gliche is that one of the tracks on the second CD had a flaw that caused it to hang-up/misplay.
Vienna Strauss Philharmonic Orchestra, Вена (Vienna, Austria).
Wiener Johann Strauss Orchester (Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra) is an Austrian orchestra based in Vienna. The orchestra was formed under the auspices of Professor Oskar Goger and the ORF (Austrian Radio) in 1966. Eduard Strauss II, nephew of Johann Strauss III, who carried on the Strauss dynasty musical tradition into the 20th century, was the orchestra's first conductor.
Finding authentic Viennese-styled performances of the music of Johann Strauss II and his family can be difficult, unless one goes directly to the recordings of Willi Boskovsky, a conductor who was fully a part of Viennese culture and who brought the proper lilt and rhythmic buoyancy to this light music. His mid-twentieth century recordings of Strauss' waltzes and polkas with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are classics that listeners have valued for years and are frequently played as an effervescent accompaniment to New Year's festivities.
