Track 9 based on Solvent's original track 'A Panel of Experts'. Solvent wishes to thank these machines: Roland Jupiter 6, CR78, TR808, Korg MS20, SQ 10, Moog Prodigy, Touched By Sound DRM1. Solvent wishes to deny using digital machines on this recording (but he might be lying). This album is a sublime collection of instrumental, electronic pop music. There are standout tracks, but every track is effortlessly pleasing and memorable. Solvent's work is so good he manages to transcend and surpass his influences.

A solvent (from the Latin solvō, "loosen, untie, solve") is a substance that dissolves a solute (a chemically distinct liquid, solid or gas), resulting in a solution. A solvent is usually a liquid but can also be a solid, a gas, or a supercritical fluid. The quantity of solute that can dissolve in a specific volume of solvent varies with temperature. Common uses for organic solvents are in dry cleaning (. tetrachloroethylene), as paint thinners (.

While Solvent's Solvent City isn't going to knock your socks off with its critical work on the periphery of dance music, it will do more than that and make you smile. After hearing so much of the serious dance music that's out there being intellectualized and eulogized, it's nice to have a disc that's both fun and happy. There's no end-time message or credo to the technologically ruled world here, just fun and exciting beats and '80s synth timbres. Solvent's Solvent City is a lot like Daft Punk's Discovery with its tribute to '80s kitsch. A fantastic disc and great work.

Solvent - A Panel of Experts (Lowfish Remix). For over a decade, Jason Amm’s work as Solvent has neatly defied categorization. His music is too sweetly melodic for techno or acid, his compositions too fiendishly detailed for synth-pop. He was too steeped in the sounds of the ‘80s to participate in the incipient IDM scene; he was briefly lumped in with the short-lived electroclash movement, only to outlive it; he’s played minimal wave parties and goth clubs, indie-rock shows and techno all-nighters.

I'm a 50-year-old man!" snarls Mark E Smith on this latest Fall album, adding chippily, "What you gonna do about it?" It's not so much a question as a challenge, and a rhetorical one, at that. Pick of the Album: '50 Year Old Man', 'Wolf Kidult Man', 'Senior Twilight Stock Replacer'. We’ll tell you what’s true. You can form your own view.

Solvent shifts over to Morr Music for his visit to SOLVENT CITY, and the perkiness of "A Panel Of Experts" might be enough to get you to move permanently, and "Some Assembly Required" only seals the deal. Though the electronics have a retro, analogue feel to them, the jauntiness of the melodies and the crisp rhythms are enough to keep things humming along. Lowfish ends the album on a slightly moodier and darker remix of "A Panel Of Experts.

There are basically three quality tiers in the band's discography: classic Fall, good Fall and minute Fall, and this lands neatly in the second category, with none of the instant classic, teeth-cracking tracks that cover their best sides, but plenty of inspired ranting and rhythmic dexterity nonetheless.

Very cool that someone actually has this, because I (Solvent) don't! It was purely a demo tape, which I sent out approx 25 copies of around 1995 / '96. I probably sent to Mute Records, Rephlex, Warp, Skam, Plug Research, etc. It got me a deal offer from Isophlux but that didn't seem to pan out. One correction: RE "with a 'Solvent' sticker haphazardly affixed to each side." -- it wasn't actually done all that haphazardly. I actually put some effort into making all of the stickers smudged/corroded/badly cut out/torn/affixed messily etc, so that each one was unique but also, in reference to the name Solvent.
