Knowle West Boy is named for the Council Estates housing project neighborhood Tricky grew up in. This set is not shrouded in mystery: it's autobiographical. It's the first album of well-crafted songs he's come up with since Maxinquaye (but doesn't sound a thing like it). As has been his wont since early on, Tricky also employs a host of other vocalists here for the sake of expressing more complex emotions, and also toward spinning a more complete - if sometimes complex - narrative.

This album - 'Knowle West Boy' is the culmination of his entire career. Now these aren't my words, but his. He has said before 'Knowle West Boy' was released that this would reflect all of his influences and previous work. There is no mistake about that. Even with his massive popularity, his recent works have been less than average. Tricky's failed attempts such as Vulnerable and The Impossible Thrill EP have been said to show Tricky's end. 'Knowle West Boy' enters with the 'mumbled half sung' style of Tricky with a piano leading it. More.

2008’s Knowle West Boy, his first album in five years, kicks off with Puppy Toy, a 21st-century blues featuring vocalist Alex Mills and a chorus that blasts like a radio hit. A couple of tracks, Bacative and Baligaga showcase Rodigan Morgan toasting over Dancehall-based grooves, while Council Estate is a slice of fractured punk. Tricky - born Adrian Thaws in the Knowle West section of Bristol, England - made some of the most riveting pop music of the ‘90s. Trip-hop classics like Maxinquaye and Pre-Millennium Tension were dark, atmospheric works imbued with a sense danger and eroticism. Tricky is an elusive figure in some ways: he often spotlights other singers while he quietly intones below them, and stylistically he can be a bit of a shape-shifter, albeit one who puts his own stamp on everything he touches.

Everything else about Knowle West Boy is just endlessly confounding: It's clearly better than the last two albums Tricky's put out since he decided to cheer up a bit and start feeling California, but it doesn't exactly come together in any tangible way. Granted, there's a couple moments on this album that feel deep and heartfelt- expressing a lingering resentment at the psychological beatdowns of class warfare in "Council Estate" ("They call you can't-go-straight/ They call you crime rate") or a longing regret at fathering a child he hasn't g. .

Tricky's studio album Knowle West Boy was released in the UK and Ireland in July 2008, and September 2008 in the US. The first single from the album was "Council Estate" and features the artist as the sole vocalist: "It's the first single I've ever done with just me on vocals. I couldn't whisper that song. I had to come out of myself and do a loud, screaming vocal.

Electronic pioneer Tricky will release his eighth album, "Knowle West Boy," on Domino Records on Sept. 9 in the United States and July 7 in the . Electronic pioneer Tricky will release his eighth album, "Knowle West Boy," on Domino Records on Sept. com, which allows users to download its separate components and submit their own remixes. The record is said to deal with growing up in the Brixton neighborhood that lent the record its name. Here is the track listing for "Knowle West Boy": "Puppy Toy" "Bacative" "Joseph" "Veronica" "C'mon Baby" "Council Estate" "Past Mistake" "Coalition" "Cross To Bear" "Slow" "Baligaga" "Far Away" "School Gates".

Tricky's eighth album begins with the boy from Knowle West performing to a barroom piano and double bass like a British Tom Waits. It may seem an odd homage, but Tricky and Waits are similar creatures - wry, dirty-lunged weavers of sharp, modern blues that is incredibly seductive when done well. And, on a record thick with tales about his Bristol upbringing, Tricky more than seduces. Past Mistake and School Gates honour the misty ghosts and honest lyrics of his 1995 breakthrough album, Maxinquaye, without slipping into reverence.
