Hanging Out Road Trip Summer The Great Outdoors Freedom. The record/DVD was recorded just as the band began to shift from the lo-fi freak folk of the OCS and early days of Thee Oh Sees to a more powerful and wildly electric sound; this collection of performances works as a sort of summing up of that scrappy psych folk sound before they fully transitioned. It's stripped down and haunted with a little bit of rumbling garage rock noise on the rockers and there's a fragile, almost tender approach on the ballads - especially the painfully lovely "Golden Phones," which features some fine saw playing by Mullins

I've always maintained that Oh Sees covers are perfect for their albums, and Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion is no different. A lovely and peaceful painting of a quaint pond, but one in dark shades that give the scene an uneasy feeling. The same with the music within - one forgets how bewitching Dawson's voice can be, most clearly heard in "Highland Wife's Lament," and John has not once failed to deliver a mood-appropriate guitar, driven by a -his-skull Petey, Damnit!'s gentle but often deep drumming.

But Foggy Notion shows Thee Oh Sees at their most laid back, their most subdued. For all of its hushed, echoing sonic qualities, the record is shockingly intimate, or better still, personal. Apart from the fact that, for most, this may be their first time hearing Foggy Notion, the slow pace, elastic hum and all around quiet is transportive.

there is also a black version. amazon always gives me the black sadly.
in waiting
Is this the half green, half white version from Castleface or the one from Midheaven?

UK one is coke bottle green, pretty much the same as the An Odd Entrances UK variant. Limited to 400. https://www.discogs.com/Thee-Oh-Sees-Thee-Hounds-Of-Foggy-Notion/release/13668655This transparent darker green one is a US edition.

This is the UK one I'm pretty sure, think its limited to 300. The half grass green one is the Castle face one and is two different colours

Fantastic remaster. Sound comes through clearer then ever, or maybe that was just because no major music service had this album and until recently it wasn't legally available for purchase at all beyond the used copies here on Discogs. Haunting and atmospheric, "foggy" is certainly a good way to describe this album. I've always maintained that Oh Sees covers are perfect for their albums, and Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion is no different. A lovely and peaceful painting of a quaint pond, but one in dark shades that give the scene an uneasy feeling. The same with the music within - one forgets how bewitching Dawson's voice can be, most clearly heard in "Highland Wife's Lament," and John has not once failed to deliver a mood-appropriate guitar, driven by a clearly-bored-out-of-his-skull Petey, Damnit!'s gentle but often deep drumming. Topping it all off, this album is both a greatest hits and general farewell to the OCS era of what is now Oh Sees, bringing together the best songs from Songs about Death and Dying to Sucks Blood just months after The Masters Bedroom is Worth Spending a Night In signaled the final death of the quiet noise that Dwyer used to make in his meth days. Well, until Memory of a Cut Off Head came along that is. That album is still, on the whole, a straight evolution of the OCS era, but Thee Hounds of Foggy Notion still pairs very well the OCS: Live in San Francisco recording if you're looking for a relaxing but chilling time.

Reissue is on the way from Castle Face, should be available in May or June

By far my favourite of the folk-era OCS/Thee Oh Sees albums. Pretty awesome considering it's a "live" compilation. Sadly commanding insane prices now.

Such a wonderful record! I'm so glad I was able to get a copy of this:)
