Understandably pleased with the success of their mainstream breakthrough album, Puzzle (2007), Biffy Clyro don't change much on the follow-up effort, Only Revolutions. Once again they work with producer Garth Richardson and smooth out the rougher aspects of their early recordings, the Beggars Banquet albums Blackened Sky (2002), The Vertigo of Bliss (2003), and Infinity Land (2004)

Nearly a decade into their recording careers, Only Revolutions is the sound of Biffy Clyro turning their riffaholic formula into an art form. Channeling the riotous energy of their pulse-quickening live shows, this is a blistering collection of songs that sprints from the giddy desert rock of Bubbles (given the royal seal by a Josh Homme guitar solo) to the black-skied balladry at the heart of Many of Horror (which was handed an unlikely afterlife thanks to a UK reality TV juggernaut) with effortless.
