Whorl ‎(2xLP, Album, Ltd, Ora + CD, Album + Ltd). If you're a fan of ambient and techno, this is such a quality album for the price. It's the furthest they've strayed from their debut album, "Attack Decay Sustain Release", so that's likely why it's the least popular among their fans.

Simian Mobile Disco are an English electronic music duo and production team, formed in 2003 by James Ford and Jas Shaw of the band Simian. Musically, they are known for their analogue production. Ford is also known for his production work. Simian Mobile Disco originally formed as a DJ duo, on the side of their early four-piece band Simian.

Simian Mobile Disco may always struggle to shed their image as purveyors of raucous electro house. For what is essentially a composite of three "live" performances (all produced on a deliberately limited set-up of two modular synths, two sequencers and a mixer), Whorl is surprisingly cohesive. A certain eclecticism is hard-wired into Simian Mobile Disco's DNA, but this exploration of the ground between krautrock and techno is clear in its direction.

Live In Japan is a live album from Simian Mobile Disco. It was released July 7, 2008 on Wichita Recordings and Hostess records in Japan. Although the album is made one only track, the track listing given inside the CD case shows only Simian Mobile Disco tracks, except for Ladyflash which was originally composed by The Go! Team and remixed by Simian Mobile Disco for the single release of the track and live purposes.

James Ford and Jas Shaw of Simian Mobile Disco have spent the last decade cresting waves and skirting irrelevance to arrive at where they are today. After splintering from rock quartet Simian in 2005, Ford and Shaw turned toward the type of high-energy, melodically palatable electro that came to be known for a mercifully brief spell as blog-house, releasing one of the genre’s most colorful and striking full-lengths in the form of the 2007 debut Attack Decay Sustain Release. SMD's new album Whorl plays like an expected follow-up to the pleasantly forgettable Unpatterns rather than a confirmation of SMD’s still-revered live show.

The making of Whorl was such a break from Simian Mobile Disco's previous methods that James Ford and Jas Shaw considered releasing the album under a different name. It's not a truly live set but "amalgamations of live recordings," as they word it. During April 2014, they recorded material at Space Cave Studio in London (over the course of a few days), then performed improvised one-offs a week later in a desert north of California's Yucca Valley and at Pappy & Harriet's, a venue in the same state's Pioneertown.

Talk about Simian Mobile Disco - Whorl

If you're a fan of ambient and techno, this is such a quality album for the price. I bought mine near mint for $5, which is a steal for the quality of the 2xLP pressing and for the music itself. It's the furthest they've strayed from their debut album, "Attack Decay Sustain Release", so that's likely why it's the least popular among their fans. However, it's slowly become my favorite record of theirs. Also, it was recorded live in 2 or 3 takes per track, but the output is studio quality. Definitely a something to appreciate as an electronic music fan and a fan of live performance.Give this album a try if you haven't! Start with Calyx, Jam Side Up, and Dervish to see if it's your jam before buying. Nazard gives me huge Halo 2 vibes for some reason. Very cool and underrated record IMO. I think fans of Boards of Canada's "Tomorrow's Harvest" will appreciate the dark, deserted, spacey vibes on this one.
