While in the Berkeley music archives, Frank stumbled upon the works of one Francesco Zappa, an extremely minor figure of the 18th century who was better regarded as a cellist than as a composer. More importantly, as a composer, his entire goal was to make money off of the noblemen to whom he would dedicate his work, which pretty much made him the opposite of Frank in terms of general "artistic philosophy.

Francesco Zappa is a 1984 album by Frank Zappa. It features chamber music by the Italian composer Francesco Zappa, who composed between 1763 and 1788. David Ocker played a piece of Francesco Zappa's music for Frank Zappa because it was popular with some college music students.

The Perfect Stranger is a 1984 album featuring the music of Frank Zappa, conducted in part by Pierre Boulez. It was originally issued on vinyl in 1984 and on CD in 1985 by Angel, and then in remixed and resequenced form on CD by Barking Pumpkin in 1991. Later reissues (of the same master) were by Rykodisc in 1995 and Zappa/Universal in 2012

Francesco Zappa (1717 most likely in Milan – 17 January 1803 in The Hague) was an Italian cellist and composer who lived most of his adult life in The Hague, the Netherlands. He was highly regarded for his virtuoso cello playing and his compositions were published and distributed throughout Europe.

That’s when Frank Zappa formed THE BARKING PUMPKIN DIGITAL GRATIFICATION CONSORT, the first musical ensemble dedicated to the preservation of early 21st century performance practices. As the director of the BPDGC, Frank knew the real value of unfulfilled 18th century recording contracts, and he realized the appropriateness of recording Francesco Zappa.
