Freedom Call is a German power metal band formed in 1998. The band tours regularly and the current line-up includes two original members including lead vocalist and songwriter, Chris Bay. Freedom Call has released 12 albums in total, nine of these studio albums. Freedom Call's frontman Chris Bay's vocal talent was more or less inherited from his grandfather, an opera singer with the Berlin State Opera, and his mother, who was a sought-after chorus singer.

Freedom Call continued after Stairway to Fairyland by doing the exact same thing on their second album Crystal Empire, only this time it’s a little more streamlined. This is a more conventional power metal album, melding right in with the scene at the time which was absolutely bursting at the seams. They dialed down a lot of their epic songwriting here into quicker, more light-footed tunes – skipping along like rocks along the water

Freedom Call returns with their second full CD, still mixing a bit of Helloween and old Angra, performed by great musicians, and with SPV backing them up, this can easily become a success. Freedom Call stands above the rest because they have variation, and their own way to create melodies. And there’s even cool riffs here, something most bands in the same genre never really cared for. A couple of songs are a bit too mainstream, but Freedom Call, Rise Up, Pharao and Quest are all classics. It’s about time to quit your day job in Hamburg, Mr Zimmerman.
