Soul is a 1966 studio album by Lena Horne, arranged by Ray Ellis. Soul was the third of four albums Lena Horne recorded for United Artists Records. Recorded between September 9th 1965 and March 11th 1966, and released in June 1966. The album was re-issued on CD in 1996 by EMI and re-released by DRG in 2007 with six bonus tracks. I Got a Worried Man" (Ray Ellis, Al Stillman) – 3:06. Wonder What I'm Gonna Do" (Jimmy Briggs, Larry Harrison) – 2:54.

Lena Mary Calhoun Horne (June 30, 1917 – May 9, 2010) was an American singer, dancer, actress, and civil rights activist. Horne's career spanned over 70 years appearing in film, television, and theater. Horne joined the chorus of the Cotton Club at the age of 16 and became a nightclub performer before moving to Hollywood.

That wasn't the case, of course, but the title did mean to alert potential customers that Horne would be tackling contemporary material in contemporary arrangements. With Ray Ellis at the podium and a 48-year-old singer steeped in Hollywood and nightclub traditions at the microphone, however, things could only get so trendy

An Album/ LP by Lena Horne described as follows Title: Soul". Label/Pressing Date: United Artists Records label, pressed in 1960s. Condition of Label: VG to VG. Manufacturer's Catalog UAS-6496, Stereo. Was: Previous price£6.

Lena Horne's"Soul,"was originally released by United Artists in 1966, a period when that great singer, who was born in Brooklyn in 1917, was still going strong. She now, well into her nineties, is making no further public appearances. Her career, as a pop/jazz/Broadway diva, ran from 1938, when she was discovered singing and dancing at the famous Cotton Club in Harlem, to 2000. I really enjoyed Lena singing "What the World Needs Now" and this is a fine album. Lena's voice isnt the silky youthful instrument it once was but she sings these songs well. They may not all suit her style but for fans of 60s music its great to hear her sing these songs.
