Seth Lakeman - Poor Man's Heaven flac album

His fourth solo album, Poor Man's Heaven, was released on 30 June 2008 with an accompanying tour. It introduced a rockier edge to the folk of the previous albums. It was also the last album to be produced by Sean Lakeman and it was awarded silver levels of sales in the UK. Seth's fifth album, Hearts & Minds, was released on 19 July 2010. Seth released his 7th studio album 'Word Of Mouth' which entered the charts at number 20. On the 6th June, Seth played at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the Radio 2’s D-Day 70 Years On concert, he performed King & Country with the BBC Concert Orchestra. Seth wrote the song, which appeared on his gold-selling album Freedom Fields, about his grandfather who took part in the D-Day landings and took Seth years later to Arromanches Beach to recount that fateful day. 2015.

Nevertheless, Poor Man's Heaven is nothing like the disaster you suspect the hardcore trad arrs would love it to be. If it's less characterful than Kitty Jay, the unassuming Mercury-nominated album Lakeman recorded in his kitchen for £300, then it's infinitely more characterful than most singer-songwriter albums aimed at the Tesco market. Whether the Tesco market will make anything of it - and what Lakeman's old fanbase will make of it if they do - remains to be seen.

Seth Lakeman's fourth solo album, Poor Man’s Heaven, moves him ever closer to the mainstream, his frantic fiddle playing backed with a small, tight band fully aware of the power they generate. But the Dartmoor-based folk singer still digs into local folklore for material. The pounding opener "The Hurlers" refers to an ancient stone formation in Cornwall, while "Solomon Browne" commemorates the more recent loss with all hands of the Penlee lifeboat - Lakeman knew some of the bereaved as a schoolboy.

There can't be many UK folk singers who can shift 100,000 copies of an album, as Seth Lakeman did with 2006's Freedom Fields – and judging by the tenor of Poor Man's Heaven, Lakeman may be only as temporarily beholden to the notoriously purist folk scene as Bob Dylan was in 1965. For all the Celtic tang to his fiddle-playing on a track like "Blood Red Sky", the backbeat is pure rock'n'roll, with an edge of funk for good measure; and his delivery of "The Hurlers" finds Lakeman bellowing it out with the brawny conviction of a Springsteen or Bon Jovi.
