The Gambler is the sixth studio album by Kenny Rogers, released by United Artists in December 1978. One of his most popular, it has established Rogers' status as one of the most successful artists of the 1970s and 1980s.

It was Kenny Rogers who finally broke the song loose, in a version produced by Larry Butler. His rendition was a Country hit and even made its way to the Hot 100 at a time when country songs rarely crossed over. This song had a huge impact on both Kenny Rogers and its writer Don Schlitz. Rogers had three Country hits under his belt, but "The Gambler" gave him the title track to his biggest-selling album. Schlitz was able to quit his day job (actually a night job - he worked the graveyard shift) and become a full-time songwriter

I remember my Mom coming home with the record album that had the picture of the white haired man on it. His music was everywhere. And twenty-one years later, Kenny's music is still everywhere. he just gets better with age. Album Stats.

Also in 2007, the 1977 Kenny Rogers album was re-issued as a double CD, also featuring the 1979 Kenny album and this once again put Rogers' name into the sales charts worldwide.
