Insomniac is the fourth studio album by American rock band Green Day, released on October 10, 1995 by Reprise Records. Recorded as the follow-up to the band's multi-platinum breakthrough Dookie, Insomniac featured a heavier sound and bleaker lyrics than its predecessor.

Throughout Insomniac, there are vague references to the band's startling multi-platinum breakthrough, but the album is hardly a stark confessional on the level of Nirvana's In Utero. It's a collection of speedy, catchy songs in the spirit of the Buzzcocks, the Jam, the Clash, and the Undertones, but played with more minor chords and less melody and recorded with a bigger, hard rock-oriented production.

When Green Day partnered with video game developer Harmonix for 2010's Green Day: Rock Band, there were a few glaring omissions from the set list. Notably, the game was devoid of tracks from the band's first two Lookout full-lengths, 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk, though that was explained away quickly as an issue related to irreparable damage to the masters. The only other album not represented in some way was 1995's Insomniac despite the fact that it sold more than 2 million copies.

Used as the album cover for 'Insomniac' by Green Day in 1995. The piece is titled 'God Told Me To Skin You Alive' - a reference to an early Dead Kennedys song. There are three skulls on the cover – one for each member of Green Day. One of the skulls requires you to view the piece at an angle. The hidden skull is taken from Hans Holbein’s 1533 painting The Ambassadors.
