Around the Sun is the 13th studio album by the American alternative rock band . released in October 2004 on Warner Bros. The Outsiders" features a guest appearance by rapper Q-Tip. When the song was performed live, Michael Stipe carried out the rap, as he did on a later b-side release of the song.

Around The Sun. Encapsulating the album's strengths and weaknesses, this is a very pretty song but one that leaves the listener asking "Yes, but what of it"". It's guitar oriented, unlike much of the music on this album, but still follows the same basic formula, and the band should probably have ended the album at the end of the last track. Hold onto this boy a little longer. Take another trip around the sun. That verse perfectly foreshadows their next album "Accelerate". It's also urging their bandwagon fans not to jump off, but unfortunately, many of them already did.

Around the Sun will never be hailed as a classic the way many of their previous albums have. Its soft acoustic sounds and slow pacing don't work as well as they did on albums like Automatic for the People and Reveal, causing the whole album to feel a bit unfocused and unsure of itself. I can understand why many fans were disappointed and understandably so; even the band members themselves seem to wish they had done things differently according to some interviews. The weakness of an album like "Around the Sun" doesn't lie in the fact that the songs are a little on the slow and quiet side. You can make a decent slow and quiet album, in fact . already did with "U.

Around The Sun is mixed and mastered with a soft and pleasant finish; REM has never sounded so lush; but most of its songs are bland. This is evanescent music best played as a backdrop in an airport lobby.
