Ultramega OK is the debut studio album by American rock band Soundgarden, released on October 31, 1988 by SST Records. Following the release of the EPs Screaming Life (1987) and Fopp (1988), both for the Sub Pop record label, Soundgarden signed with SST and went to work on their debut full-length. The resulting album contained elements of heavy metal, psychedelic rock, and hardcore punk. The band supported the album with a tour of the United States, as well as its first overseas tour.

Stickers on shrinkwrap: Soundgarden Ultramega OK GrammyⓇ-nominated 1988 full-length finally released as the band intended it! Remixed from the original multi-track tape by Jack Endino. Includes bonus Ultramega EP with six previously unreleased early versions of songs from the album. Matrix, Runout (Runout side A etched): BG53942-01 A1 SJ.

The album is a unique blend of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and the Butthole Surfers that tells why there was a devoted cult that followed Soundgarden around in their earlier days. But the one thing that bothers me about this album is the crappy production courtesy of SST. Ultramega Ok is not completely a punk record and the metal influnces falter because of this. I sadly say that i kinda listen to the BBC version of "Flower" on Telephantasm more than the studio version here

The best expression of Soundgarden's early, ppelin/Sabbath sound, Ultramega OK is a dark, murky, buzzing record that simultaneously subverts and pays tribute to heavy metal. At times, the band and its recasting of over-the-top '70s hard rock seem smirky (Hiro Yamamoto's ridiculous vocal on "Circle of Power"; a "cover" of John Lennon's "One Minute of Silence"); a few, like the cover of "Smokestack Lightning," really do sink into turgid metal silliness

Incessant Mace (Long) This remixed and expanded reissue of Soundgarden’s 'Ultramega OK' is a long-planned correction of the legendary band’s Grammy®-nominated debut full-length. The album was originally recorded and released in 1988 on SST Records. While the band enjoyed working with the original producer, Drew Canulette, they soon realized they weren’t quite happy with the final mix. Thus, shortly after the album’s release, the band decided to remix the album for subsequent pressings.

Revisiting Ultramega OK, it’s obvious in retrospect that Soundgarden were going to clamber to an exalted position in rock. They managed to balance their mad-scientist tendencies with an innate savvy about how to craft a rock song-even when they were six minutes long and based around one chord. The album captures the band on the eve of being swept into the major-label system, and it predicts how they would wring rock hits out of unexpected building blocks.
