Gimme Shelter is a compilation by The Rolling Stones, released on Decca Records in 1971. It reached on the . chart. This is not a soundtrack album from the film of the same name. Side one is composed of previously released studio recording from 1968 and 1969. Side two consists of tracks previously released on the US live album Got LIVE if you want it! in 1966. All tracks composed by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards except where noted. Side one. "Jumpin' Jack Flash". Love in Vain" (Robert Johnson).
Gimme Shelter" is the title of the movie that documented The Stones 1969 tour, including the Altamont concert where a fan was stabbed by a Hells Angels security guard. The movie was rush released in 1970 to come out before the Woodstock documentary. It was released on video in 1992, and re-released in theaters in 2000 for the 30th anniversary. George Lucas of Star Wars fame was on the crew for the movie. The Stones recorded this using old, worn out Triumph amplifiers to get a distinctive sound
GIMME SHELTER - Mick Jagger, Keith Richards. This tune is from the ROLLING STONES' album LET IT BLEED which was released in 1969. The guitar that I call LEAD RHYTHM is tuned in OPEN E. Once you get accustomed to this tuning and to the use Keith Richards makes of it,it is easy to tab its part. Keith Richards reports that when recording the song in the studio, the guitar he used (an Australian copy of a Gibson) fell apart at the end of the last take : the neck fell off !
Gimme Shelter is the opening track of the Rolling Stones’s 1969 album Let It Bleed (where it was actually spelled Gimmie Shelter, but the more accurate spelling was adopted afterwards). Backup vocals are sung here by female guest vocalist Merry Clayton. Jagger explained in the 2003 book According t. he Rolling Stones: The use of the female voice was the producer’s idea. It would be one of those moments along the lines of ‘I hear a girl on this track – get one on the phone.
