It also reached on the Pop charts, making it the band's first entry into that chart's Top 40. The album spawned the band's first 3 Top 10 singles.

At the time, Kool & The Gang was made up of six members: Robert 'Kool' Bell, Claydes Smith, Dennis '. Thomas, Ronald 'Khalis Bayyam' Bell, Robert Mickens, and George Brown. The group joined together with music producer and founder of De-Lite records, Gene Redd, in 1968, when Redd signed them to his first record label, Redd Coach Records

Kool & the Gang also began working with jazz fusion arranger Eumir Deodato, who produced their records from 1979 to 1982. Celebrate!, released in 1980, spawned Kool & the Gang's only number one hit, "Celebration," an anthem favored by innumerable wedding receptions since.
