Juno Reactor ‎– Shango. Label: Metropolis ‎– MET 185. Format: CD, Album, Digipak. This album is really where Juno Reactor decided to say goodbye to trance beats and hello to world music. While the previous album, Bible of Dreams, had hinted towards a more ethnic feel (chanting vocals, tribal instruments), Shango explores this genre to the fullest. While you can still hear the distinctive JR beats in the background, there isn't much dance appeal here anymore (exception being the track Insects which is particually bouncy). JR seems to be more interested in creating an epic world listening experience with this album forward. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

The members of Juno Reactor seem to have made a decision here as to what they wanted to do when they grew up, with the answer being, interestingly, Art of Noise for the 21st century coupled with atmospheric merging with world music elements from all over the planet. There are mammoth sounds at hand - deep, dark moods, moments of widescreen cinema - and much clever subtlety. With "Pistolero" alone - a mad blend of samples, beats, effects, and flamenco guitar from Steve Stevens - Juno Reactor has leapt away from the past and into a more imaginative future.

Juno Reactor, however, a band with an incredibly original and distinctive sound, really has yet to change their style dramatically since their first album, Transmissions, from 1993. If anything has changed, perhaps their mood has become somewhat darker - but not by much. I would assume that most fans were expecting their most recent follow-up to Bible of Dreams, Shango, to be somehow an improvement over previous work, or at least a departure. Nevertheless, Shango reveals no pleasant surprises here, nor any great disappointments. I guess I would have liked to hear some new material, something different and even more innovative than the band's previous work - a facet to Juno Reactor that has never been heard before. Alas, as this was not the case, Shango remains just another really good Juno Reactor album. One person found this helpful.

The fifth Juno Reactor album, ‘Shango’, maintained the global genre fusions of its predecessor with appearances by Amampondo and steel guitar from . The single ‘Hotaka’ was also released; recorded in Japan, it featured traditional Taiko drumming by percussion ensemble Gocoo. The group also celebrated its first decade with the retrospective ‘Odyssey: 1992-2002’

Since the release of Shango, Juno Reactor has been involved in various other projects including the production of several tracks for Matrix: Reloaded and Matrix: Revolutions as well as a Juno Reactor greatest hits compilation entitled Odyssey 1992-2002.

Such a pity that 'solaris' is not included in the vinyl release
