Nekropsalms doesn't really do anything that hasn't been done before, but when everything is executed as perfectly as it is on this record then it doesn’t matter. What Obliteration have accomplished better than probably any other band in this revival scene is to compile a record that provides an almost flawless synopsis of death metal as it existed worldwide in the glory days of the movement, and for a record that revels in reanimating a dying genre this is probably the most successful they could have ever been.

The word to describe this album is: morbid. they can create a hypnotic fermentation through sheer willpower and minimal hints of progression. I seriously felt maggots birthing in my eyewells and cobwebs forming across my beard as I listened to this album. It is the true sound of rot, the horror of the grave as the bodies moulder and commit themselves to the cycle of micro-organic rebirth. The band has outdone itself with this release, and the Nekropsalms sound ancient and horrific.
