On Love and Beyond, Jay Haze fills in one of those gaps that sounds strange to fill - if not downright unpromising. Call it music to play to get wound up for going out, or to come down slowly at the end of the night, with some standouts here and there on this album, if not anything truly deathless. Songs such as "Can't Forget," with a guest appearance by Dexter as well as a loping.

On disc one, we have LL Cool Jay Haze, the bastard offspring of Andre 3000’s many trysts on The Love Below. On disc two, we have an agglomeration of Dabrye, Flying Lotus and Funkstörung. The second disc has some gems (‘Like a Flame’, ‘Steady Smooth’, ‘Frozen’) and the odd stinker, but doesn’t really stand up as a cohesive listening experience, and as Love and Beyond asks to be judged as a cohesive musical statement, so shall it be.

Jay Haze left Philadelphia in the early 2000s and is now based in Berlin, also home of his house/techno record labels Tuning Spork Records and Contexterrior. Jay has released tracks and remixes on several other labels, often under pseudonyms such as Fuckpony (for BPitch Control, Get Physical Music and Cocoon Recordings) and Sub Version (2) (for Soul Jazz Records)
