Primal Scream's Martin Duffy volunteered to help the band complete the album, which was basically written before Collins' death, and that might explain why there are no overt references to his absence anywhere on the album. Instead, Tellin' Stories is another collection of classicist rock & roll spiked with dance beats, much like any other Charlatans album

Tellin' Stories is the fifth album by the British alternative rock band The Charlatans, released on 21 April 1997. It includes the final contributions of founder-member and keyboard player Rob Collins who died in a car accident midway through recording. The album was their most commercially successful, having three top ten singles, which remain their career's highest charting.

The Charlatans is the fourth album by the British alternative rock band The Charlatans, released on 28 August 1995. It went to the top of the UK Albums Chart the same year. The Charlatans is rated 84 in the Melody Maker's top 100 albums of all-time list from 2000. Select ranked the album at number 17 in its end-of-year list of the 50 best albums of 1995. The album's original title was slated to be The First Shag in Ages, named after a chapter from Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting.

THE CHARLATANS Tellin Stories (1997 UK 11-track CD album including the singles One to Another North Country Boy How High and Tellin Stories picture sleeve BBQCD190). Like Blur, the Charlatans started out as seemingly slight "Madchester" wannabes: Remember the organ-driven hit "The Only One I Know", which nicked its hook from Deep Purple's "Hush"? But the group has matured over the last seven years, becoming a gutsy rock band with a penchant for psychedelicized blues, not unlike the Rolling Stones of Aftermath and Between the Buttons.
