The influence of gospel music stretches far and wide, and the best gospel singers, too, cover a wider range of styles, as this list of the Top 15 shows. The gospel songs that Williams recorded, such as ‘When God Comes And Gathers His Jewels’, suited his maudlin, drawled delivery. James Cleveland (1931-1991). The Reverend James Cleveland, who taught Aretha Franklin to sing gospel, was hailed as the Crown Prince Of Gospel. Aretha Franklin was just 14 when she recorded the 1956 album Songs Of Faith at the New Bethel Baptist Church, where her father was the reverend. Before crossing over into the world of mainstream entertainment, Franklin was a talented gospel singer (in the same way as Amy Grant, for example) and her voice was able to cope with the demands of the high and powerful notes needed to become one of the best gospel gospel singers on record.
Mount Zion (Hebrew: הַר צִיּוֹן, Har Tsiyyon; Arabic: جبل صهيون, Jabal Sahyoun) is a hill in Jerusalem just outside the walls of the Old City. The term Mount Zion has been used in the Hebrew Bible first for the City of David (2 Samuel 5:7, 1 Chronicles 11:5; 1 Kings 8:1, 2 Chronicles 5:2) and later for the Temple Mount, but its meaning has shifted and it is now used as the name of ancient Jerusalem's Western Hill. In a wider sense, the term is also used for the entire Land of Israel.
God Himself first identified the area in which He met with Moses on Mount Horeb (Sinai) as holy ground. It was there that God commanded Moses to go to Pharaoh and demand that he let the people go from bondage to Egypt. It was not that the actual ground on which Moses stood was holy; rather, it was the presence of the holy God that made it holy. The direction to Moses to remove his shoes was in conformity with what was well known to Moses, for, having been brought up in Egypt, he would have known that the Egyptian priests observed the custom in their temples. Today it is observed in all Eastern countries where the people take off their shoes or sandals before entering mosques and synagogues as a confession of personal defilement and conscious unworthiness to stand in the presence of unspotted holiness.

When God called to Moses from the burning bush, the first thing God told him was, Take your sandals off (Exodus 3:5 Exodus 3:5And he said, Draw not near here: put off your shoes from off your feet, for the place where on you stand is holy ground. American King James Version ). Some 40 years later when God appeared to Joshua as the Israelites besieged Jericho, He again said, Take your sandal off your foot (Joshua 5:15 Joshua 5:15And the captain of the LORD’s host said to Joshua, Loose your shoe from off your foot; for the place where on you stand is holy. 6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.
God calls Moses, and with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm God liberates his people from bondage. They cross the Red Sea on dry ground. They receive food from the sky and water from the rock. And in three months they arrive at Mount Sinai. In Exodus 19:10–15 God instructs Moses to consecrate the people. In three days they are to approach the mountain. In three days the Lord descends in fire and the mountain is wrapped in smoke. Exodus 34:6–7 are among the sweetest gospel words in the Bible. The fact that they come from Mt. Sinai and not Mt. Calvary, the fact that they preface the ten commandments (34:28) and not the book of Romans shows that the message of Christ and the message of Moses are one harmonious message of grace.
God told Moses and Aaron that they were to, before the entire population that left Egypt, take Aaron's rod and speak to a certain rock (Numbers 20:8). After they did this, water would miraculously come out of the rock and give much needed water to the the people. Sandro Botticelli, 1481 - 82. Moses and Aaron did most of what God commanded, except that they were so angry with the people that they made it appear as if they, by their own power, were quelling the thirst of the people. After the death of Moses his body was buried by the Eternal in a special place no one would be able to find. It is interesting to note that Mount Nebo is at a higher elevation than Mount Hor, thus providing a more spectacular view of the land God promised the Israelites as an inheritance.
Mount Zion, the highest point in ancient Jerusalem, is the broad hill south of the Old City’s Armenian Quarter. Also called Sion, its name in Old Testament times became projected into a metaphoric symbol for the whole city and the Promised Land. First, perhaps at the time Solomon built his Temple, the Temple Mount came to be called Mount Zion. Then in the first century AD, following the Roman destruction of Jerusalem, the name was transferred to its present location across the Tyropoeon Valley. Early Christians built synagogue-church.
