Floodland is the second studio album by English gothic rock band the Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 13 November 1987 through Merciful Release and WEA, with Elektra Records handling the US release. After the release of the band's debut album, First and Last and Always (1985), members Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey departed the band, leading to the band's disbandment. As a result, band frontman Andrew Eldritch formed a side project, The Sisterhood, and recorded new material with them

Tracks 1-8 originally issued as Merciful Release album MR441 (13/11/87). Tracks 9-10 B-sides of This Corrosion (Merciful Release single MR039(T) (9/87) and subsequently appended to the original Floodland CD. Track 11 is a previously unreleased outtake from the Floodland sessions. Track 12 was recorded 1/88 and issued as a B-side of Dominion (Merciful Release single MR043T) (2/88).

Floodland is the second studio album by English rock band The Sisters of Mercy. About Floodland 1 contributor. Floodland is the second studio album by English rock band The Sisters of Mercy. It was released on 13 November 1987 by Merciful Release and Warner Music Group. The recording of the album began in January 1987, roughly two years after the band disbanded following the departures of band members Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey. Much of the lyrics of the album refer to this split, with The Cold War being the. The Sisters of Mercy.

The sisters of mercy mmmm say no more. It wasn't the latest Prince album, that much was certain. I never worried about stupid labels, I just put the album on and if it sucked, I threw it out. Also, Floodland has decidedly "morbid" and apocalyptic bent/themes running all through it, and Andy's voice, as always, is very much on the doomy side of things, that cannot be denied. to This Corrosion is clearly a "gothic" touch, at least. Does this help at all?

The album itself differs from the rock-oriented First and Last and Always almost completely. It seems to be more progressive, containing 6 songs over the 6 minute mark while First and Last and Always only had one song over the 6 minute mark (Some Kind of Stranger). However, this is not a bad thing, it builds up the song and creates an atmosphere that differs from that of First and Last and Always. It is not necessary melancholy like the last album but is downbeat in some parts of the album. It was a B-side from the last lineup of The Sisters of Mercy. Joy Division's Closer only had 9 songs and a lot of people concur that album as better than "Unknown Pleasures".
