Shine On Brightly is the second studio album by English rock band Procol Harum, released in 1968 by record labels Regal Zonophone and A&M. It is considered an early example of progressive rock. The title of the nearly side-long suite "In Held 'Twas in I" is an acrostic.

Shine On Brightly is a music studio album recording by PROCOL HARUM (Crossover Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1968 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Procol Harum's second album is absolutely essential. Anyone with an interest in prog who has not heard "In held twas in I" (incidentally, more recently covered by supergroup Transatlantic) owes it to themselves to hear one of the earliest and finest examples of progressive rock from the late 1960's. This epic track in five sections has it all; superb vocals, symphonic keyboards, top class lead guitar, complex structures, obscure lyrics, etc.

After the multi-million selling "A Whiter Shade of Pale," Procol Harum coalesced around a new lineup and cut a debut album in two days, the sales of which were only fair (because the hit song wasn't on it originally). Then they did Shine on Brightly, which initially drew on recordings going back to late 1967 - in the course of preparing their first proper LP, the band junked an entire side of blues-based numbers in favor of the 18-minute suite "In Held 'Twas I," which rivaled anything yet heard from such established progressive rock outfits as the Nice or.
