Those in any doubt about their influence on the roots of techno only need visit Submerge, the suburban house on East Grand Boulevard that Underground Resistance have turned into their headquarters, just a few blocks from the Motown Museum in Berry Gordy’s old home. The fact that they’re playing the tenth anniversary of Movement, the Paxahau run festival that takes place at Hart Plaza overlooking the Detroit River, is a bit of a coup. In some ways it feels like an apology, too. Last year, Snoop Dogg was recruited for the traditionally headline Sunday night closing slot, the expectation being a set of old school hip hop, funk and disco. The Movement electronic music festival has scored a coup: a first-ever Hart Plaza performance by Kraftwerk, the groundbreaking group that changed the course of popular music. The German band will bring its multimedia 3D Experience show to the riverside fest's main stage the weekend of May 28-30, seven months after a sold-out performance at Detroit's Masonic Temple. Festival-goers will be provided with 3D glasses for the event. Movement festival has announced phase one of the lineup for its tenth anniversary and it's so good it just might make your heart skip a beat. German dance music pioneers Kraftwerk are set to hold down the headlining spot with their acclaimed 3D show, making their very first Movement appearance, and they'll be receiving "support" from a legendary array of international producers and DJs. Other artists making their Movement debuts this year include British producer Four Tet, German power duo Âme (DJ set), Dan Snaith's Caribou and The Black Madonna.
