Album: Greatest Hits, 1996. This video is actually a song written by Violeta Parra, and sang by Joan Baez during an European Tour she performed in 1980. I consider this one of the most beautiful versions of this song, even better than other versions performed by Joan Baez herself. I dedicate this post to everyone that despite having problems in life, being sad or in trouble, are trying to move on and get better. This song means a lot to me, and everyone should listen to it and pay attention to the lyric, because being thankfull for what you have is the best way to feel good.

Gracias a la Vida (Violetta Parra) was a great song to begin with, and Joan makes it her own. The other songs are great as well. If you have any exposure to Spanish, you should be able to understand the songs as she has a clear way of presenting the lyrics with a fantastic voice. I love folk music, especially protest music, and this is an extremely good example of both. Joan Baez sings popular and classic Spanish songs in her gifted way. For more years than I can remember, I've played the record again and again. Joan Baez sings with such passion; she really feels the music and lyrics. She is a true legend, and "Gracias A La Vida" is one of her best.

Nana Mouskouri, Joan Baez

This previously unheard Joan Baez performance, recorded during the summer of 1975, is notable for not only capturing a pivotal time in Baez's career, but also for the stellar cast of characters involved. This set signals the return of Baez to the popular music scene, when her newest album, Diamonds And Rust was rejuvenating public interest, but prior to her reconnecting with Bob Dylan for his legendary Rolling Thunder Revue tour. A more traditional approach is also explored on "Gracias A La Vida, which she plays by request, accompanying herself on guitar. However, it's when this remarkable band joins in that the set truly begins to soar. Baez's evocative and reflective love song to Dylan, "Diamonds And Rust," is an early highlight of the set, as is her cover of Emmylou Harris' "Boulder To Birmingham," which begins with tasteful piano accompaniment by Briggs, before the entire band kicks in.
